Early 1900s Louis Vuitton steamer trunk
Louis Vuitton Antique Steamer trunk . Circa. Early 1900’s
A very good example of a stencilled early steamer trunk by Louis Vuitton in their best grade with leather lozine edges and handles.
One of the most desirable models on the pre owned market and a piece sure to climb in value.
This trunk is structurally sound with handles and hinges , complete and intact.
The locks and brass clous ( nails) all signed LV.
Two wheels to the base in their original housing also signed Louis Vuitton.
The store labels for Louis Vuitton and the first LV outlet in Egypt are present in the interior which is complete with its removable linen trays, both sectioned with lidded compartments for accessories. Wear commensurate with age.
The outer of the trunk has some luggage labels that are from its travels ( beware of new labels covering up damage)
There is grazing to some of the canvas which is shown in the pics. This looks worse than in reality and the general ‘Country House’ patina of this ‘old money’ trunk would grace any interior as a statement piece.
The L.V. Monogram canvas was introduced in 1896 by Georges Vuitton in honour of his father… it has become one of the most famous logos of all time.
The first monogram canvas was woven and generally faded to a pale orange brown when exposed to sunlight.
The second and perhaps most desirable canvas for an antique trunk was painted and is widely known as stencilled canvas, before being replaced in 1959 with today’s modern canvas.
Today trunks are often used as coffee or side tables (with or without a piece of safety glass ) cut to size to form a wipeable table top.
Alternatively at the foot of a bed or under a console table .A statement piece used in home decor and a quickly appreciating asset.
